Course Overview

The Disability Care Sector is a rapidly growing sector in Australia and current employment prospects are high for qualified Disability care workers. Students will develop skills in a range of areas including supporting the disabled person in the activities of daily living, provision of support for individuals with a disability in the community sector, working effectively with culturally diverse clients and colleagues in providing social, physical and psychological care.

The Certificate III in Disability is an eight week full-time course, and comprises of both in-class learning and practical experience. Essential knowledge will be assessed through written work and the essential skills will be assessed through the industry placement. Students are required to complete between 80 and 120 hours of practical placement in the Disability care sector.

This course provides successful candidates with the minimum qualification for entry to the Disability care industry. This certificate qualifies the holder to work in the disability care sector, either in a residential care facility or in the home setting out in the general community.

Students wishing to continue their professional pathway can upgrade to the Certificate IV in Disability Work, or diversify their training by undertaking another Community Services qualification such as the Certificate III or Certificate IV in Aged Care. Students can also progress onto the Diploma of Community Services Work or other health care professions such as Nursing at a tertiary level.

RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning):

Students may be able to shorten the length of their chosen course by measuring skills acquired through work, life experiences or qualifications obtained from formal studies or training.
